People realize that the Alberta government is able to keep taxes low because of fossil fuel royalties, which is forecasted to be over $16 billion this year.
What they may not realize is that another reason is Ottawa subsidizes the provincial government. That subsidization is projected to be over $13.5 billion this year.
That federal subsidy disappears if Alberta separates.
Alberta will not be able to afford low taxes if it is independent.
