Lori’s playing arm-in-sleeve game with Cinder. I captured this with my spanking-new Nikon D50 digital SLR. I’ve decided that I need a hobby that gets me away from the keyboard for short periods at least, and when I return I’ll be mucking about with photos more often than “just checking work email (again)”.
Thanks, Lori, for getting me my new toy.
Hey can you do me a favor and try taking some pictures at 1600ISO and download them for new years eve? Pictures in the front yard in the dark (street lighting) work good. I’d like to see how noisy they are compared to my Digital Rebel.
You will like the camera. If you get serious at all, get a tripod (worth more than any mega pixel count). Looking forward to seeing the toy!

Did you want the pictures taken ON new years eve, or just somewhere you can see them that day? Not sure what we’re doing that day/eve . . .
I was looking for a tripod yesterday, actually. Lethbridge boxing day shopping isn’t quite the madhouse that Calgary is. Except for the wall-to-wall people in FutureShop (and none of the $20 1GB Sandisk SD cards were left there). No tripods left in FutureSchlock either.
Went to CostCo and got the memory card for $26 after at-the-till coupon rebate. No tripods there at all (not really expecting to see them tho). Robinson’s was closed.
I think I’ll be stopping by Saneal on the way home this afternoon . . .

Here’s a site with sample photos, including night shots at all of the iso settings.
I’ll go take some pix out on the street tonight. You’ll need to do the same again, as it’s snowed and the reflectivity is way up from what it was before.
