Server Rack 1 by Digital:Slurp on flickr.com
Very similar to what we do at work, in the 3rd floor managed space at the Telus bunker. Not so similar to what we have done in the colo space there previously, but that is a retrofit/rework/fixup in progress.
Can’t tell from this picture, but I imagine both ends of the cables are properly labelled too…
Take the time to do it right, saves a lot of frustration later with tracing unknown cables to unknown destinations etc. A rack like this will take maybe 2 days to wire and label and document correctly.
Edit: Also note the lack of cable management arms. They only serve to block airflow and cause servers to overheat!
Ah, makes me cry… look at the wonderful use of velcro ties instead of those gawd-awful tie-wraps! ’tis a thing of beauty.

Except cutting velcro ties yourself from a big roll of it creates a lot of dust that gets into everything (more than you would imagine). Dust from this sort of thing and cardboard boxes are to be avoided if you want your datacentre air handlers to live long and healthy.
Anyways, yes. I have been bitten by the sharp ends where zip ties had been pruned. Secret there, if you are going to use those, is to have a slightly dull set of side cutters and get a nice dull edge on that trim job.

Or, as was taught to me by my favourite electrician, take a pair of needle nose pliers and twist it until it snaps. That will leave more of a point on it should you pull, but he could make it so the twist left nothing but a blunt tip to it. Takes a bit of mucking to learn it, but once you do you can run them down your arm without worry.
