WestJet landings

Monday, February 18th, 2008

When we landed in Toronto earlier this week, the WestJet flight came in pretty hot and we had an extended bumpy roaring vectored-thrust landing that ended with the flight crew quipping over the PA “Wasn’t that a SMOOOOTH landing”.

Coming back to Calgary was a much better landing.

I wonder if it was the same pilot/aircraft in the Ottawa slide-off-runway incident that we had on the Calgary to Toronto flight earlier in the week?

The passengers were eventually delivered by bus to the terminal, almost two hours after landing.

WTF, why should that take more than 30 min? Get a bus out there, one of those rolling stairways, etc, get everyone off and onto the bus then to the terminal once it is determined there are no serious injuries. Sort it out there.

Marielena Dibartolo was returning to Ottawa with her 10-month-old son, Liam King.
“I had him on my lap and was feeding him and all of a sudden we were banking to the left,” she said. “It was pretty rough and all I saw was field. That’s when I knew we definitely weren’t on the runway.”

Another WTF. WTF are you doing lady, feeding your kid during landing? I sure hope it wasn’t breast feeding and if so that he has no teeth yet. That rough landing could have been a royal pain in the teat…

Steve Singer, who was also on board with his family, said his 10-month old son Craig Singer didn’t make a peep in all the commotion.
“The plane landed, the reverse thrusters came on…then after a couple of seconds we realized we weren’t slowing down and there was all this snow flying up over the wings of the plane,” said Mr. Singer.

What’s this, was everyone going to a 10-month-old-baby convention?

Flying in the face of danger

I have no idea what the gulls were doing flying around the bottom of Niagra Falls and then up the face.

Maybe there were some small fishies that they were hunting.

One would think that a small miscalculation and swoosh, caught in the water and crashing down to the bottom would be their quick end.

Fast Food at the Tourist Trap, originally uploaded by cyberdex.

World’s ugliest tourist trap, just across from the American Niagra Falls. The Canadian falls are up the road a bit, and only slightly less tinged by this ugly street of unbelievable tacky things.
