Something to look forward to … heat waves of summer, crowded beaches, dogs running loose…
Where’s the sand?
Yet another collection of random links and rantings of a greying unix geek with a photography bent. Pass the Guinness and Grecian Formula.

Where’s the sand?
Now that it is staying light out longer after work, I should start wandering around the neighbourhood again (or the one near work too) with the camera and see if I can find any other odd things like this misplaced spoon.
Three Girl Pyramid (from Shorpy’s)
No, this blog posting title wasn’t a calculated move to get some search engine traffic, no not at all. LOL.
Handy tip for VMWare users. Don’t push the “thrash me to death” button programatically by trying to start 30 virtual machines simultaneously.
There might be some i/o contention and timeouts/weird behaviour involved (No Duh!)
This is on a server that already had 10 virtual machines up and going previously. Yeah, we work with some interesting stuff. This particular server has 8 cpu and 32G of ram.
We have lots of servers like this, some a bit smaller.
We run VMWare. We run it in a completely bizarro atypical fashion due to our business needs being at complete right angles to everyone else that uses VMWare…. so sometimes it is expected that we will be paged out of bed when things go awry.
Need to get the person responsible to put a 120 second delay between vm starts into their configuration. I don’t care that it would mean even longer to bring all of them online.
It took longer than expected anyways for the thrashing all-at-once method to almost-but-not-quite succeed in starting them all up.
I hate manual intervention. (being on pager sucks)
Say no more.
