Calgary’s High Tech Hot Bed
Wednesday, July 4th, 2007The Calgary Economic Development (CED) office has released a report that offers a comprehensive overview of the Advanced Technology sector in the city.
It says, perhaps surprisingly, that Calgary has the second highest concentration of ICT employees per capita, compared with other major North American centres.
The sector includes over 2,400 companies and employs over 55,200 people in Calgary, almost 10 per cent of total employment in the Calgary Economic Region.
Calgary has the youngest population in Canada, with an average age of 35, and has the highest net inter-provincial migration in Canada, attracting more than 11,000 people annually from 1998 to 2004.
Calgary has one of the best educated populations in Canada; approximately 73 per cent of Calgarians have attended a post-secondary institution and more than 10,000 people a year graduate from Calgary’s major post-secondary institutions.
