Workopolis 20, Monster 7

Tuesday, February 1st, 2005

Dice has been absolutely useless for me in all of my job searches past present, and likely future. See previous blog entry for some details.

Dice has never facilitated for me any useful contacts from any pimp. The ones calling me from my resume posting there are generally clueless, asking me to relocate when I specified no to that question, or for skill set ABC when I clearly did not have anything related to ABC. (ie: Visual Basic and VAX administration, in one position.. yes… weird…).

Monster used to be my preferred resume posting and job-searching hang out. However, this time around my resume has only gotten 7 hits from pimps in the last month. The quality and quantity of job postings for my particular area of interest and expertise is somewhat …. lacking as well.

Workopolis (was CareerClick a year or three ago?) is my number one choice. More variety, more pimps looking at my resume (20 and counting) and so forth. Now if any of the contacts, subsequent resume submissions, and occasional interviews actually turn into some cash generating gig ….

Still waiting on that.

Plan B was blind resume submission directly to companies that did not have any suitable positions advertised, but also were in industries that interested me, appeared to be using some form of UNIX I could live with, are of a reasonable (< 250 employee) size, etc.

Got to the second interview on one of those, we’ll see how far it goes.

Might be firing up Plan C soon. I’ll give it another week before pulling the pin on that action.
